01The programme

A place where clinical problems become engineered technologies.

The post-graduate programmes in Medical Technologies, jointly offered by IIT Jodhpur and AIIMS Jodhpur, exist to foster innovation — and to build a pool of medical technologists who develop globally competitive medical and healthcare technologies for the challenges of today and the future.

Medical science and engineering are taught side by side, with deliberate emphasis on translational R&D, technology management and entrepreneurship. Coursework leads into a project that creates a futuristic device, process, product or protocol — and, for many, a start-up in healthcare.

02IIT Jodhpur × AIIMS Jodhpur

Two institutions. One translational loop.

An engineering institute and a medical institute, designing the curriculum and the research together — so that medicine sets the problem and engineering answers it.

01

IIT Jodhpur

Engineering depth — sensors, electronics, robotics, materials, AI and systems — and the labs to build with it.

02

AIIMS Jodhpur

Clinical expertise, first-hand medical needs, and the clinical setting in which technologies are tested and validated.

03

Together

Joint coursework, mixed cohorts and shared projects, so every technology starts from a real clinical question.

03Clinical need → Impact

From a patient’s problem to a working technology.

The programme's translational model in nine stages. Scroll to move through it — each stage names the question being answered, and who answers it.

  1. 01 · Clinicians · Students

    Clinical Need

What problem do patients and clinicians actually face?

Unmet needs are identified at the bedside — through clinical immersion at AIIMS Jodhpur — before a single line is drawn.

  2. 02 · Faculty · PhD scholars

    Research

What does the science already say?

The need becomes a research question, investigated across medicine, engineering, materials and data.

  3. 03 · Joint cohorts

    Ideation

    Which approaches could work?

Mixed teams of medical and engineering graduates generate and filter concepts against clinical reality.

  4. 04 · IIT Jodhpur labs

    Engineering

How do we build it well?

Sensors, electronics, mechanisms, software and AI are engineered to a specification set by the clinic.

  5. 05 · Design & fabrication

    Prototype

Does it work outside the drawing?

Design and advanced manufacturing turn the concept into a device, process, product or protocol.

  6. 06 · AIIMS Jodhpur

    Validation

Is it safe, accurate and useful?

Prototypes are tested against clinical evidence with the clinicians who defined the need.

  7. 07 · Agencies · Industry

    Funding

    How does it keep moving?

Grants, sponsored research and start-up support carry validated work across the gap to the market.

  8. 08 · Innovators · Start-ups

    Translation

    How does it reach people?

Technology management and entrepreneurship turn a validated technology into a deployable product or venture.

  9. 09 · Patients · Health systems

    Impact

    Did care get better?

Globally competitive medical technologies that address current and emerging healthcare challenges.
